PANTONE® Goe™ System Recent ehancements to Goe technology are making Goe colours easier for designers to use. In September 2008, Pantone announced GoeBridge™, an extension to the Goe system which provides conversion formulas for CMYK, sRGB and HTML colours. GoeBridge enables designers to adapt print projects so they display properly on the internet or in other colour spaces. Support for Goe colours is available for Adobe, QuarkXpress and other popular design software. Pantone launched their new Goe™ colour system in autumn 2007. The Goe system does not replace the older Pantone Matching System (PMS), which has been in use for almost 50 years. Although Goe doesn’t make PMS colours obsolete, it does offer 2,058 colours compared with the 1,114 colours in the PMS system. Since only about 40 per cent of PMS colours have a match in the Goe system, both colour matching systems will probably still be used for quite some time. The Goe system uses just ten ink bases plus a clear ink compared to PMS colours, which use 13 ink mixing bases. Printers cannot use PMS inks to print Goe colours. Instead, they must use the Goe Ink Mixing Bases or get pre-mixed ink. The Goe mixing bases are also engineered to provide consistent color on a range of UV and aqueous coatings and papers and to print with uniform ink thickness to reduce drying times and make it easier to match colors on press.
